A rising star in the world of food, this young and dynamic native of Langley, B.C. is a fifteen year veteran of the Canadian restaurant industry. His enthusiasm for “all things culinary” shows with every plate that leaves the kitchen. Every day is seen as an opportunity to expand and improve his craft. James grew up in Calgary where he worked his way through many of the cities finest restaurants. It was at Murrieta’s where James first met Ned Bell (Partner, Cabana) and began their almost decade long friendship. Together they garnered many accolades including “Best Overall Restaurant”. After Murrieta’s, James moved on to The Living Room where he and Jay Blackford (Partner, Cabana) elevated the restaurant onto the national stage, being named “one of the best places to eat in Canada” by the National Post along with numerous other awards. So, when those two teamed up to open Cabana in 2008, it was only natural that they would bring James back to his home province to take on the role of Executive Chef. James’ food is an innovative combination of old world elegance and his own unique twist of new world flair. Throughout his career he has enjoyed high praise from many prominent media figures as well as his peers. He brings to Cabana an approachable but exceptional menu taking full advantage of the Okanagan’s extraordinary fare. Alongside his talented team, the awards have continued for James and Cabana, most recently taking the bronze in Vancouver Magazine’s Annual Restaurant Awards for Best Overall: Okanagan. As well, James has been nominated for Western Living’s “Top 40 Foodies Under 40” James is a proud member of the local culinary community and hopes to continue sharing in its growth. From the local Chef’s Association to all the farmers, ranchers, growers and vintners, James has begun to plant his roots here in Kelowna and loves the fact he gets to call this wonderful place home! |
